‘White December’ at humane society

LEWISTON – It’s a “White December” at the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society. Throughout the month, all white cats (and those with an 80 percent white coat) are adoptable at half the adoption cost.

“Last year we adopted out over 1,000 cats into loving homes,” said Steven Dostie, executive director. “At the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, cats are 75 percent of the animals we welcome into the shelter. Our hope is that this ‘White December’ campaign will save lives by promoting adoption. These previously unhopeful animals deserve a new chance on life, love and the forever home they each deserve.”

The society provides a haven for more than 5,000 sick, homeless and abused animals a year. The primary support comes from fundraising events and donations of residents.

Prospective pet parents can visit the humane society at 55 Strawberry Ave. Those interested in learning more about volunteering at the shelter or adopting an animal should call 783-2311 or visit www.gahumane.org.
