A car sits on the sidewalk in Auburn late Saturday afternoon after its driver, Gure Ali, 59, tried to turn left into a parking spot and clipped the car beside him, police said. “After he struck her vehicle, he panicked and hit the accelerator instead of the brake and launched himself into 81 Main St.,” Auburn Lt. Rick Coron said. Ali, of Auburn, was taken to Central Maine Medical Center with possible injuries to his arm and shoulder. His 1995 Toyota Avalon was a total loss, Coron said. He estimated damage to the other car, a 2006 Nissan Altima driven by Julie White-Smith of Durham, at $5,000. Coron estimated the damage to 81 Main St. at $10,000. The building is rented by Community Concepts. Police did not know who owned the building.
