AUBURN – Police arrested a Mechanic Falls man who they say robbed an 84-year-old woman after he followed her home from a convenience store Saturday morning.
Ryan Crane, 21, had a 350,000-volt stun gun and several knives in his car, police said. He was charged with robbery, two counts of burglary, theft, misuse of identification and carrying a concealed weapon when police arrested him after stopping his car on Court Street in Auburn Saturday morning.
According to police, the woman, who lives on Caron Lane, told them that a vehicle had followed her home from a convenience store. When she she drove into her garage and opened her car door, a masked man demanded her purse and grabbed it. After a brief struggle, he left with it.
Investigators say they learned that the suspect used the woman’s credit card at a Lewiston convenience store shortly before he was arrested.
A search of Crane’s car also turned up a firearm taken in a burglary at a residence earlier in the day. In addition, police found marijuana, drug paraphernalia and plastic cable ties in the vehicle.
Crane was being held at the Androscoggin County Jail on $25,000 cash bail.
