FARMINGTON – A late rally by the University of Maine at Farmington men’s basektball team came up short on Saturday as the Beavers fell to the University of New England 83-82 in men’s basketball action.
A banked three-pointer by Andrew Dean pulled the Beavers (3-4) to within one at 83-82 with 2.3 seconds remaining, but UNE held on for the win.
Quentin Thompson led all scorers with 25 points for the Nor’easters (6-3).
Women’s basketball
Univ. of New England 63, UMaine-Farmington 52
FARMINGTON – The University of New England outscored the University of Maine at Farmington 19-8 over the final seven minutes to collect a 63-52 victory in women’s basketball action Saturday.
The Nor’easters (6-3) opened the contest with a 14-4 stretch over the opening nine minutes. Alli Gamache and Kelley Paradis each tallied 15 points for the Nor’easters.
Caitlyn Laflin scored 15 points and snagged nine rebounds for the Beavers (3-4) with Ashley Busque supplying 12 points and Erin Porter adding 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Southern Maine 61, UMass-Dartmouth 48
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Junior Nicole Paradis tied for game-high scoring honors with 11 points in a balanced attack as Southern Maine coasted to a 61-48 win over the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth.
The win keeps the Huskies unbeaten.
Paradis was 5-for-11 from the field as 11 of the Huskies players scored at lead four points. Senior guard Stacey Kent added nine points, eight rebounds and three assists, while junior forward Ruthie Briggs tossed in eight points off the bench.
Southern Maine (8-0) took its largest lead of the game, 24 points, over the Corsairs (2-7) with 12:25 to play on a lay-up from freshman forward Courtney Cochran.
