RUMFORD – Senior forward Vanessa Cayer recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds to guide Mountain Valley to a 42-32 victory over Livermore Falls in MVC girls’ basketball action Monday.
The Falcons (2-2) outpaced Livermore Falls in each quarter, taking a 20-15 lead at the midpoint. Senior guard Meagan Maifeld contributed 10 points in the winning effort.
Senior guard Missi O’Connor led the Andies with eight points on three field goals, including a pair from 3-point range.
Winthrop 43, Monmouth 27
WINTHROP – Senior forward Lindsay Gordon scored 16 points to lead Winthrop to a 43-27 victory over Monmouth on Monday.
The Ramblers (3-1) pulled away early, taking a 21-8 halftime lead.
Erika Ducharme paced the Mustangs (0-4) with eight points.
Boys’ basketball
Jay 52, Monmouth 41
MONMOUTH – Senior center Dylan Stefani tossed a game-high 15 points as Jay sailed to a 52-41 victory over Monmouth in MVC boys’ basketball action Monday.
The Tigers (3-0) played even in the first half before steaming ahead in the second stanza.
Jordan DeMillo contributed 13 points on three field goals and seven free throws.
Sophomore guard Tim Whitmore led the Mustangs (0-3) with 12 points, while sophmore forward Seth Musich collected 10 points.
Winthrop 62, Mt. Abram 26
SALEM – Senior guard Zach Farrington poured in 21 points to lead Winthrop to a 62-26 triumph over Mt. Abram in MVC boys’ basketball action Monday evening.
The Ramblers turned around an opening 5-1 deficit by taking a 15-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Senior forward Andrew Smithall provided 18 points as Winthrop stormed to a 55-24 lead after three quarters.
Sam Simpson led the Ramblers (0-2) with 10 points on one field goal from 3-point range and seven tosses from the charity stripe.
Boys’ hockey
Leavitt 6, Fryeburg/Lake Region 1
BRIDGTON – Steven Rouillard scored three goals and assisted two others by Tyler Robitaille, lifting undefeated Leavitt to a 6-1 boys’ hockey win over Fryeburg/Lake Region.
Rouillard and Robitaille each produced a power-play goal in the first period, staking the Hornets (4-0) to a 3-1 lead. Drew Bent set up an earlier goal by Robitaille. Kevin Zachrisson provided the lone answer for Fryeburg/Lake Region.
Robitaille fed Rouillard’s third goal in the opening minute of the second period, and Rouillard returned the favor with a second assist to Ian Durgin at 4:13. Max Cloutier provided the final margin, Kolby Youland and Ryan Urquhart assisting.
Cody Violette made 27 saves for Leavitt.
Old Town 11, Lisbon/Oak Hill 1
AUBURN – Cody Cross scored five goals and assisted three more Monday night, powering Old Town to an 11-1 boys’ hockey rout of Lisbon/Oak Hill.
Matt Nadeau also scored a hat trick for Old Town (1-1). Derek and Ryan Dubay each added a goal for the Coyotes. Josh Prue tallied an unassisted goal for Lisbon/Oak Hill. Cam Blouin made 34 saves.
