HealthSteps slates sign up for winter classes

LEWISTON – HealthSteps, a health education and prevention program for adults that focuses on the whole person, will offer a range of classes in January with the core membership fee as well as a variety of specialty classes, including:

Ashtanga Yoga, Primary Standing Series: A beginner class in an athletic vinyasa format (meaning poses and breath energetically flow together). Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m.; Session 1, Jan. 7 to Feb. 4; cost, $45; Lepage Large Conference Room, 99 Campus Ave.

Beginner Bellydancing: Mondays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Jan. 5 to 26; cost, $45; Lepage Large Conference Room, 99 Campus Ave.

Gentle Exercise: The class is designed for those with arthritis, recovering from cancer or any other individual who desires a mild form of exercise. It helps improve range of motion, strength, posture, balance and coordination. Tuesdays, Thursdays from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.; Session 1, Dec. 30 to Jan. 29; cost, $22 or free with HealthSteps core membership; Bank of America Room, Women’s Health Pavilion, 330 Sabattus St.

Line Dancing: No partner needed and no previous dance experience required; Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Jan. 14 to Feb. 11; instructor, Diane Williams; cost, $30; Lepage Large Conference Room.

Lose With Me!: A 12-week weight loss session focused on helping make healthier lifestyle choices. Classes include goal setting, exercise recommendations, nutrition education and peer support. Wednesdays from noon to 12:30 p.m., Jan. 14 to April 1; cost, $50; d’Youville Conference Room, 102 Campus Ave.

Racquetball: Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30. Specific time slots are available for registration Monday through Friday on the hour, for an hour, from 6 a.m. to noon. Cost, with core membership, $18 for the winter/spring session, without core membership, an hour once a week, $90, or an hour twice a week, $144.

Senior Fitness: A one-hour class providing participants with a safe and effective workout that includes a warm-up, cardiovascular component, resistance training to build strength, balance and flexibility exercises. Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. or 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.; Session 1, Dec. 29 to Jan. 30; instructor, Johanne Healey; cost, $30; Nutrition Center of Maine, 208 Bates St.
