Students in Mrs. Marilyn Curtis’, Mrs. April Lemmings’, Mrs. Jen Robitaille’s and Mrs. Maddie Cornish’s classes at Philip W. Sugg Middle School are doing more community service. Students are now writing letters and cards to soldiers, and preparing treats for the members of the Lisbon Police, Fire, and EMT Unit. Students continued their community service efforts by making 200 placemats and 300 mint cups and other decorations for the annual Thanksgiving dinner sponsored this year by the town of Lisbon.

All of the students are also looking forward to making gifts and cards for local nursing home residents, shelters, and shut-ins during the winter months. Ashley Conrad, a student in Mrs. Curtis’ class shared, “It feels good to help people that don’t have the things we have.”

“Community Service is even more important now than ever,” said Mrs. Curtis. “Children need to know they can help in many ways to show people that they care in this time of need.”

All students are very involved in the projects. One student, Rebekah Nida, commented, “It feels really good. I like helping people.” Another PWS student, Jeff Willey, shared, “It feels like you’re really giving people something, it feels good.
