PERU – A Peru man escaped injury Tuesday night when he lost control of his pickup truck while hauling a plow truck on a flatbed trailer on Route 108.

Eric Hamann, 22, of 171 Gammon Road was heading south in his 1986 Ford F-250 and had another heavy-duty pickup with a plow on a trailer behind, Maine State Police Trooper Paul Casey said.

“He told me he loaded the pickup truck toward the rear (of the trailer) too much,” causing the trailer to begin weaving.

“The accident marks indicated he was all over the road,” and eventually he lost control of the truck he was driving, Casey said. The trailer flipped over and the plow truck came off and landed on its side.

The truck Hamann was hauling was destroyed, Casey said.

Hamann was able to drive his other truck away with the trailer.

Casey said it was fortunate no one else was driving along that stretch of the highway at the time because Hamann “went all the way across the other side of the road.”

The Peru Fire Department assisted with traffic and cleanup.
