Dear Sun Spots: Every year I get my calendar from the Rexall drugstore. There is no more Rexall Drug store; they sold out. This is where I get my calendar every year around Dec. 10. Outside of the calendar it says 2008 weather/appointment calendar and handy hints. I just love this calendar, especially the handy hints.

Their address is Handy Hints, Creative Publishing, 1608 South Dakota Ave., Sioux Falls, SD 57105. I don’t find a phone number to call. Can you help me find where I can get one? The calendar is printed for the place that gives them away. They are free here at Howard’s Rexall Drug Store. If anyone out there gets one of these calendars, please let me know. This is my second Bible. Contact me at 778-6780 or 152 Mosher Hill Road, Farmington, ME 04938. – Barbara Titcomb, Farmington.

Answer: A search of the address you provided led Sun Spots to Mary Mortenson, project manager at Creative Publishing. She told us if you’d like to purchase one of these specific calendars, please send your request with a check for $5 and your mailing address to the address on your 2008 calendar or e-mail Mortenson at mary@sparklight.org. You may also call the sales department at 800-423-7158.

Dear Sun Spots: The Families in Crisis Task Force would like to thank all those who attended our fundraising event Saturday, Nov. 29, and for all the donations of toys and money received that will benefit the children of Oxford County. We were able to raise $675 and received several toy donations. This is a great start to getting the toys and funds needed for this holiday season. We wish to extend our sincere thanks to the Oxford Advent Christian Church for the use of their facilities, Chris Rose and the crew of Channel 6 News for the coverage of this event and Leslie Dixon and the staff at the Lewiston Sun Journal. It is great to see all the support from individuals, families, groups and businesses during this time.

The holiday season is known as a time for giving and even in these hard times it is great to see so many willing to help those in need. We have heard from people from several counties offering assistance. We are very grateful for all the helpers out there and the people with great words of wisdom and great ideas. We are still in need for this holiday season. We are still short several hundred toys. If you would like to help out, please send donations to Families in Crisis Task Force, 659 Park St., South Paris, ME 04281. Our contact number is 357-7072. Toy donations may be dropped off at the Family Counseling Services office at 659 Park St. (Route 26), South Paris. There are boxes in the waiting room to place them in. Hope you all have a safe and happy holiday. – Peggy Turner, program director.

Dear Sun Spots: For No Name, Vienna, years ago, canned hulled corn was available. It was heated in its own liquid. People used a slotted spoon to remove the hulled corn from the saucepan; it was served in individual bowls. Some of us put cream and sugar on it, some put salt and cream on it. We would eat it with toast or muffins.

What is the correct procedure for disposing of outdated prescriptions and over-the-counter medications? Thanks. – No Name, Jay.

Answer: The Safe Medicine Disposal for ME program provides a safe disposal option for unused and unwanted medicine. Free envelopes are available at participating sites. This program is funded through a grant from the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Aging Initiative

Free, postage-paid medicine disposal kits have been distributed to participating locations throughout Maine. Follow the enclosed instructions, complete the survey and place it in the envelope. Envelopes are returned by mail to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the medicine is safely destroyed.

Information from the confidential survey is collected to help the program understand the types of medicine that are piling up in Maine homes and why it is not being used. This will help guide prescribing practices and medicine disposal options. Envelopes are available at the following locations while supplies last: DFD Russell Medical Centers, 180 Church Hill Road, Suite 1, Leeds. and 7 South Main St., Turner; CVS Pharmacy, 8 Union St., Auburn, and 10 East Ave., Lewiston; Hannaford Pharmacy, 131 Hannaford Drive, Farmington; in Oxford County contact Linda Hooker at the administrative offices of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department, 743-9554, 26 Western Ave., South Paris.
