ROXBURY, N.H. (AP) – The Grinch has struck early in the small town of Roxbury.

Police are seeking the culprit who stole one of the town’s three evergreen trees – complete with Christmas lights – from a town park.

Roxbury Police Chief Gary LaFreniere said the 7-foot tree was sawed off 10 inches from the base at the town’s Four Corners Park sometime this past week.

The tree was one of three blue spruces that were planted at the newly created park in the fall of 2007.

The theft was discovered by Roxbury resident Betty Robinson Walker, who was once president of the town’s park committee.

When she was driving by the park Thursday night, she noticed that only two of the trees were lit. But when she stopped, she realized the entire tree was missing.
