LEWISTON – A man arrested in connection with a home invasion on Elm Street on Monday remained in jail a day later.

Brian Paladino, 31, of 40 High St., Auburn, was being held on charges of aggravated assault, burglary, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon.

A second man believed to have burst into the home at 88 Elm St. remained at large.

Police said shortly after noon on Monday, Paladino and the second man entered an apartment where they threatened a 27-year-old man with a gun and struck him over the head with an object.

Paladino was arrested at the apartment. The second man fled and by Tuesday night, had not been arrested.

Police expected Paladino would remain in jail over the holiday. In October 2007, he was one of two men caught during a break-in at Best Buy in Auburn. Police said the men were making off with $8,500 worth of goods when the burglary was discovered.

Paladino was charged with theft by unauthorized taking and criminal mischief during that arrest and later pleaded to reduced charges.

Lewiston police on Tuesday did not say what led to the incident on Elm Street Monday afternoon. The victim of the alleged attack was treated for a minor injury to his head.
