A look at the salaries for federal judges in 2008, as well as proposed pay increases that passed the House and Senate judiciary committees in the 110th Congress (in parentheses):
• Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., $217,400 ($279,900).
• Other Supreme Court justices, $208,100 ($267,900).
• Circuit judges, $179,500 ($231,100).
• District court judges, $169,300 ($218,000).
Since 1991, lawmakers and district judges have received identical pay. But Congress has so far denied judges the 2.8 percent cost-of-living increase it has allowed itself in 2009, worth roughly $4,700 to lawmakers.
