Rebekahs to meet

AUBURN – Liberty Rebekah Lodge 94 will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, in the recreation room at the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs Home, 85 Caron Lane.

Cake and ice cream will be served to celebrate the birthday of Thomas Wildey, the founder of Odd Fellowship in America, who was born Jan. 15, 1783.

During the meeting that will begin at 7 p.m. there will be a program on the life of Wildey. A collection will be taken for the March of Dimes with a program about the March of Dimes.

Donations made by the members in lieu of gift exchange in December were sent to the Salvation Army food/oil bank.

Post project

LISBON FALLS – Nelson-Conley Post 66, American Legion, will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at the Slovak Hall upstairs meeting room, Avery Street. The agenda will include a final report on the 2008 Iraq Christmas Project.

Nelson-Conley Post recently shipped three boxes of Christmas gifts, valued in excess of $850, to U.S. personnel in Iraq. It was the sixth year for the post’s Iraq Christmas Project.

All members, prospective members and active-duty personnel are invited.

Grange program

AUBURN – Members of Androscoggin Pomona Grange will meet on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Danville Junction Grange for a 6:30 p.m. supper. The meeting will begin at 7:30, and the program will be presented by the Agriculture Committee. There will be a 50/50 raffle and an attendance drawing. All members and guests are welcome.

Grange dessert

AUBURN – Members of Danville Junction Grange will gather at the hall on Thursday, Jan. 8, for dessert at 6 p.m. The meeting, which will begin at 7 p.m., will be instruction. A program will be presented by the lecturer. All members and guests are welcome.

Golden Age

AUBURN – The Golden Age Club will meet at noon Tuesday, Jan. 13, in the Sacred Heart Church hall. A head count is needed for Sandy Plante, who will purchase food for the noon meal. The meeting will follow. Call Paula at 576-4082 to make reservations by Tuesday, Jan. 6.

Members should bring nonperishable foods for the food bank.

Reflections

LEWISTON – The Queens’ Guild Sodality of St. Joseph’s Church will host an afternoon of reflection from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, in the church.

Pat Gavula, a former nursing home chaplain, will be the facilitator. She has a master’s degree in theology from St. Michael’s College, a certificate in pastor liturgy and training in spiritual direction. She was a physician assistant for many years.

Gavula is pastoral life coordinator for the Prince of Peace Parish.

Light refreshments will be served after the presentation.

Breastfeeding

AUBURN – Expectant women and breastfeeding mothers are invited to a La Leche League meeting at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 102 Bennett Ave. Babies are always welcome.

Discussion will focus on “The Advantages of Breastfeeding for Mother and Baby.” All concerns about breastfeeding are welcome for discussion.

For breastfeeding help or directions to the meeting, call the La Leche League leader at 782-6645.

Bridge results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners of the quarterly club championship at the Multi-Purpose on Dec. 29 were as follows: first, Claire Tewhey and Alberta Turner; second, Nancy Farmer and Dick Allen; third/fourth tie, Martine Begert and Rosemarie Goodwin with Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe.

The Lewiston-Auburn Bridge Club winners of the quarterly club championship at the Multi-Purpose Center on Dec. 30 were as follows: first, Martine Begert and Fred Letourneau; second, Jeanine Kivus and David Lock; third, Dick Allen and Nancy Farmer; fourth, Lue Bilodeau and Alberta Turner.

Games are played at 9 a.m. Mondays and Tuesdays at the Multi-Purpose Center and 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Schooner Estates in Auburn. A partner is guaranteed. Call Rosemarie at 754-1431 for information about all duplicate bridge games in the area.
