FARMINGTON – Lying contentedly in his mother’s arms at Franklin Memorial Hospital, little Cole Vincent Bailey seemed unconcerned about his celebrity status as the first baby of 2009 Friday.

An 8-pound, 8-ounce boy born at 8:07 p.m. Jan. 1 to parents Donica and Bill Bailey of Phillips, Cole is their first child. He will have two four-legged siblings, Donica said of the couple’s two dogs.

Dr. Tara Aumand of Franklin Health Women’s Care attended the birth which turned into an unplanned C-section due to health issues experienced by Donica.

Donica, five days overdue, went into the hospital Wednesday but after 24 hours of labor, she developed very high blood pressure, so a C-section Thursday night was decided upon.

“We didn’t plan on it,” Donica said.

Her mother and first-time grandmother, Sharon Parsons of Kingfield, said Donica and her sibling were December babies so they were hoping to keep that family tradition going.

So far, Cole has been a good and quiet baby, only crying when he’s hungry, proud father Bill Bailey said.

The couple both work in the Farmington area, with Donica working at Franklin Memorial Hospital in patients’ accounts while Bill works for IEC, a local electrical contracting business.

The couple hope to take their baby home either Sunday or Monday, she said.
