CARRABASSETT VALLEY – A dramatic crash near Ayotte’s Country Store on Route 27 resulted only in minor injuries Tuesday, Police Chief Scott Nichols said.

Michael Roy, 27, of Harpswell was traveling south at about 10:15 a.m. when he attempted to make a righthand turn into the store.

Caleb Bean, 26, of Carrabassett Valley, traveling behind Roy, didn’t realize Roy was turning, Nichols said. Bean attempted to avoid Roy’s 2003 Saab by turning his 1990 Dodge pickup toward a snowbank which bounced him back into Roy’s vehicle causing the truck to roll over, Nichols said.

The cab of Bean’s pickup was crushed, and he needed help from the town’s fire department to get out. He received an injury to his left shoulder but refused medical attention, Nichols said.

Roy’s vehicle was struck on the right rear quarter and received about $5,000 in damage while Bean’s vehicle was totaled. Both were towed from the scene by Mountainside Towing.

Officer Dennis Burnell of the Carrabassett Police Department investigated the accident.
