LIVERMORE FALLS – Senior forward Kendra Lyman poured in 14 points as Livermore Falls climbed to the summit with a 62-26 victory over Monmouth in MVC girls’ basketball action Saturday.
The Andies (4-4) established a solid 28-10 lead in the first half with the press. Kathryn Ventrella pitched in with four field goals and four free throws for 12 points for Livermore Falls.
Freshman forward Kristine Kahl carried the load for the Mustangs (0-7), scoring seven points in the losing effort.
Winthrop 42, Telstar 36
BETHEL – Lindsay Gordon poured in 14 points and Kelsey Ouellette added 12 to lead Winthrop in a 42-36 MVC victory over Telstar on Saturday.
The Ramblers (5-2) opened a 14-4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
Cheyanne Day registered a double-double for the Rebels (1-6) with 13 points and 10 boards and Kayla Merrill added 14 points.
EL 42, Morse 27
BATH – Edward Little limited Morse to three points in the third quarter to break the game open en route to a 42-27 victory in a KVAC girls’ basketball game Saturday.
Leading 18-13 at the half, the Red Eddies (6-2) used an 11-3 run to take command.
Kayla Cummings and Kirsten Prue led EL with 13 points apiece and Francesca Lally added 12 points. Tara Burr scored 12 points for Morse (3-5).
Freeport 55, Poland 24
FREEPORT – Kristen Poulin scored 15 points and Rachel Foster added 14 to lead Freeport to a 55-24 victory oevr Poland.
The Falcons (1-6) shut down Poland’s offense in the first half to jump out to a 10-4 and 25-6 lead after the first two quarters.
Lucy Whitacre added 12 points for the Falcons. Alexa Doyer led Poland (0-8) with 13 points and Kelsie Taylor chipped in with six.
Mountain Valley 69, Wiscasset 15
WISCASSET – Mountain Valley spread out the scoring Saturday in a 69-15 victory over winless Wiscasset.
The Falcons (6-2) built leads of 19-8, 38-12 and 57-12 at the quarter breaks. The Indians could only muster three field goals in the game, all by Ali Johnson, who finished with eight points.
Ayla Allen led Mountain Valley (6-2) with 12 points. McKenzie Paterson and Lauren LePage added 10 points apiece, and Meagan Maifeld and Taylor Smith each scored eight points.
Dirigo 61, Georges Valley 28
THOMASTON – Junior point guard Jane Hebert scored 12 points in a balanced attack as Dirigo cruised to a 61-28 victory over Georges Valley in MVC girls’ basketball.
The Cougars (6-2) put up a wall of defense in the first half, shutting out Georges Valley 14-0 in the first quarter and closing out the half at 28-5.
Hebert also notched eight assists and five steals to go along with her 12 points for Dirigo, while Morgan Hutchins pitched in with 10 points.
Sophomore point guard Emily Cocks led the Buccaneers (4-3) with five points in the losing effort.
Vinalhaven 52, Rangeley 29
RANGELEY – Brooke Conway drained a game-high 16 points as Vinalhaven ran away with a 52-29 EWC victory over Rangeley on Saturday.
Rangeley jumped out to a 15-3 lead in the first quarter, but poor shooting led to them being outscored 21-5 in the second quarter and 17-2 in the fourth.
Angela White led the Lakers (4-3) with 10 points while Chantal Carrier and Hayley White scored seven apiece.
Chelsea Guptill added 14 points for the Vikings (6-0).
