BUCKFIELD – Town Manager Glen Holmes told selectmen Tuesday night that there are only 12 or 15 cubic yards of sand left from the 4,000 stocked at the beginning of winter.
Road supervisor Phil Savage said he ordered 300 cubic yards more but needs another 700. It takes 250 cubic yards to cover the roads once.
Holmes announced the highway department would be over budget, and that a plow truck had to have a clutch repair at a cost of $2,500.
Voters did not authorize money for large repairs at the annual town meeting in June.
Holmes said he was pleased with the condition of town roads, and residents had expressed the same.
Fred Cooper surveyed six residents who had issues with the sidewalk plowing. He has voiced his opinion at several meetings that the town didn’t vote to have sidewalks plowed at the annual town meeting. He was not present to speak to his survey and the issue was tabled indefinitely.
In other matters, an easement over the old railroad bed/recreation trail was granted to Eric S. Stevens for pedestrian, vehicular and utilities access to his property.
The town incurred legal fees over the easement and selectmen’s Chairman Chris Hayward asked if Stevens would be willing to pay some of the $833 bill. Stevens said he would pay $300, which Hayward said was fair.
Holmes made a plea for someone to serve on the Appeals Board, to hear appeals for two building permits that were denied because the projects are too close to the property lines. Joyce Kressey volunteered and was appointed after filling out an application.
