AUGUSTA (AP) – In one of their first acts of the new session, the Maine House and Senate have created a special committee to deal with energy issues.
The Joint Select Committee on Maine’s Energy Future will be larger than most committees, with five senators and twelve representatives. Most committees have about a dozen members.
The committee will work to develop a long-term, comprehensive energy plan that moves Maine toward energy sustainability. It also will work to promote energy efficiency in Maine homes and businesses, reduce consumption and reduce Maine’s dependence on outside sources of energy.
Senate Majority Leader Phil Bartlett says Maine can benefit from its research facilities and abundant resources.
