JAY – Police are investigating four burglaries at the Spruce Mountain Ski Area lodge and office building that have occurred since Dec. 29.

Nearly $50 in cash and a two-way radio have been taken, and about $500 in damage was done, police Detective Drew Hufnagel said Wednesday.

Three burglaries were reported Monday and Tuesday of this week, Hufnagel said.

On Tuesday, he said, he and Cpl. Jeff Fournier responded to a report of break-ins at the lodge and the nearby office building that serves as a first aid station and other uses. Entry was made by force, he said, and some locks broken. A two-way radio used on the slopes was taken, he said.

It appears nothing was taken from the lodge that time, Hufnagel said.

On Monday, Hufnagel said another burglary was reported with entry gained after a locked window was broken in the lodge, he said. About $20 and change was taken, he said.

On Dec. 29, the first burglary was reported at the lodge, Hufnagel said, and entry was gained through an unlocked window.

About $28 in cash was taken, he said, and some locks were broken.

Police made sure all windows and doors were locked when volunteers at the ski slope left for the day after that incident, he said

Hufnagel said he is continuing to follow up on leads. If anyone has any information pertaining to the incidents, they are asked to contact him at the police station at 897-6766.

“We do accept anonymous tips,” he said.
