MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) – To mark the 400th anniversary of Samuel de Champlain’s exploration of the lake bearing his name, the state is offering collector’s edition license plates.
The 400 specially numbered Champlain plates with an illustration of the lake and mountains in the background will be auctioned off online at www.Champlain400.cmarket.com from Jan. 12-30, with bids starting at $100. Funds raised from their sale will benefit the Lake Champlain Quadricentennial celebration, with events and exhibits planned throughout the year.
The plates will be good until June 30, 2010.
In addition to the collector’s edition plates, a separate commemorative license plate is available at www.celebratechamplain.org.
