TURNER – Upper Androscoggin Collaborative for SAD 52 towns of Greene, Leeds and Turner and SAD 36 for Livermore and Livermore Falls have announced upcoming academic classes, beginning the week of Monday, Feb. 2.
Algebra I, II and Geometry is a self-directed math class for students working toward a high school or GED diploma. Students will be scheduled for class according to their math requirements.
Biology is a basic lab course with an overview of life and the environment. It will cover the scientific method, the basics of life, the five kingdoms, genetics and human anatomy.
Life Science will cover science and health related topics, including contagious/non-contagious diseases, living versus non-living things, energy sources/conservation and the benefits of nutrition and exercise.
Comprehensive English Skills, Basic Grammar and Usage and Composition and Reading Skills will also be offered. Students need to complete all three classes for a full credit.
Job skills will assist students with their resume. Learn to fill out applications, write a letter of application and prepare for winning.
Accounting will teach students to use journals to complete transactions. Some topics will include analyzing time cards, calculating Social Security and Medicare taxes and preparing payroll records. The class is open to all students, regardless of prior accounting knowledge.
Health is designed to give an in-depth look at the 10 dimensions of health. Information covered includes health foundations, physical development, alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, diseases, environmental health and injury prevention.
Changing Views Part II explores historical topics that have affected social and cultural transitions in the U.S. Topics include conflicts, political strategies, social expectations and family dynamics.
History, U.S. Government and World Studies is a combination of textbook, projects and computer research.
Chemistry is the science of the composition, structure, properties and reactions of matter. The course includes a lab and is designed for those planning on entering vocational training.
Literature and Film will begin Tuesday, Feb. 10. Students will watch a selection of films based on novels and practice analytical skills. Students will also compose response papers, analytical essays and complete a final project.
Other academic classes include Argument and Analysis Essays, Basic Composition and Reading Critically.
Afternoon computer classes will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays beginning Feb. 3 at the Livermore Falls Learning Complex, 9 Cedar St. Subjects will include Basic, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. A new session will start every four weeks.
Keyboarding and Web design classes will be offered on Tuesday afternoons
