FORT KENT (AP) – Northern Maine and western New Brunswick are teaming up on an application to serve as host of the World Acadian Congress in 2014.

The first such congress was held in 1994 in Moncton, New Brunswick, and the follow-up event took place five years later in Louisiana.

People interested in having Maine’s St. John Valley be part of the site for the 2014 congress met last week in Fort Kent to discuss ways that the region can sell itself to the decision makers.

Maine and New Brunswick could face tough competition. Quebec City and Lafayette, La., are applying to host the event.
