This is in response to Billie-Jo Elliott’s letter, printed Jan. 9, regarding the Toys for Tots program.
As executive director of the United Methodist Economic Ministry, located in Salem and Solon, I have requested and received Toys for Tots for our agency for several years. Each year, our organization has received an excellent assortment of toys, games, books and other items that we have distributed in our Franklin County service area that includes Salem, Strong, Freeman and Kingfield. When we have had a surplus of gifts, we have shared them with neighboring towns.
Toys for Tots has been very generous, and those who work with this program are very courteous and helpful.
This December my van was filled from the back tailgate to the front seats with boxex of toys and gifts, and more than 120 children in northern Franklin County received gifts from the program.
Toys for Tots has an online application where social service agencies can request the number of toys needed for their service area. I would suggest that other organizations in need of toys for next year check out the Toys for Tots Web site and put in their request next November.
Kay D. Webb, Poland,
Executive director, United Methodist Economic Ministry, Salem
