DURHAM – Combined damage was estimated at $5,000 when a snowplow struck a utility pole on Route 125 Sunday night.

According to Maine State Police Trooper Ricci Cote, Clifton Larrabee Jr., 34, was plowing the center of the road on Route 125 near Brickyard Hill Road intersection. The snowplow driver told the trooper he swerved to the right to avoid an oncoming vehicle.

Cote said Larrabee overcorrected and the plow struck the pole.

There was contact with the other vehicle, which left the scene before police arrived. Larrabee complained of neck pain, but did not require immediate medical attention.

Damage was estimated at $2,500 to the 2000 Volvo plow truck owned by Larrabee Construction, the firm that contracts with the town for snow removal.

There was significant damage to the pole, which was replaced on Monday at an estimated cost of $2,500, Cote said. Electrical power was not disrupted in the 7:55 p.m. crash.
