WOODSTOCK – Efficiency Maine, a program of the Maine Public Utilities Commission, has sent the Whitman Memorial Library a Kill-A-Watt energy detector kit.
Patrons will be able to check it out, just like a book, to measure the electrical draw of items in the home in an effort to cut down energy costs and assess how efficient the items are.
Instructions and materials offer energy tips, including reducing “phantom load,” the power drawn by appliances when they are switched off.
The Thursday programs are continuing. This month’s program will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 19, rather than the second Thursday. Cliff Gray, owner of the Andrews Funeral Home, will provide information on pre-arrangements. There will be time for questions and answers.
Those unable to attend the afternoon program who would an evening program should call the library at 665-2505 or Marta Clements at 674-2143.
Marty Elkin of the Morrill Farm in Sumner will offer a program of living history from the 1870s at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 12. She will present a one-room school program from that time period.
Nancy Dewing of Greenwood will give a talk on her recent trip to India at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 9. Programs are free and open to all.
