OXFORD – A Poland man killed in a snowmobile crash on Wednesday was wearing a helmet when he drove into a camp porch along Hogan Pond, the Maine Warden Service said on Thursday.
A spokeswoman said 52-year-old Brent Howe died of injuries suffered when he steered off a trail and drove beneath a camp porch about 9 p.m.
Howe was riding ahead of two other sleds when the incident occurred, spokeswoman Deborah Turcotte said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Speed may have been a factor, according to Warden Jeremy Judd. The Maine Warden Service Forensic Team is investigating the incident.
Howe’s death was the fourth snowmobile-related fatality this season.
