FARMINGTON – More than 200 people of all ages celebrated the Obama administration on Saturday night at Farmington’s Inaugural Ball.
The event, held at the University of Maine at Farmington, saw partygoers dancing until midnight and raising what promoters estimate to be close to $1,200 for the area’s Ecumenical Fuel Oil Assistance Fund.
“It’s safe to say that the Inaugural Ball met and surpassed everyone’s expectations,” said Penny Hood, one of the organizers. “The attendees ranged from high school students, who can’t yet vote, to one woman who cast her first ballot for Franklin Roosevelt. Republicans as well as Democrats joined in the fun. The music was fantastic. And, best of all, we were able to raise a significant amount of money for a terrific cause.”
John Schoen and Hood shared master of ceremonies duties.
Shepherd’s Pie, a Farmington-based dance band, provided music.
Auctions took place through the evening; among the prizes offered were original artwork and Obama mementos.
Beneficio, a fair trade coffee supplier based in California, donated coffee.
