On Thursday, October 30, I had the pleasure of meeting Peter Zack. Zack is an environmentalist who goes around to schools to teach about renewable energy. Zack was a teacher with a “hands on” approach to teaching. Zack teaches young minds about alternative fuels and “MEEP,” Maine Energy Education Program. Hoping to complicate the thinking of the students by revealing “behind the scenes” of energy. Zack wants to increase the student’s knowledge of energy.
“Every time we flick a switch or hit a button, we use energy,” said Zack. “My job is to teach kids about how to use less energy and use it more efficiently.”
Zack also spoke about idling cars, their emissions and how they effect the environment. Even when cars idle ,they pollute the air and effect the health of others. It is critical that we find alternative fuels to run our vehicles.
“Global warming is a very real issue. Research has proven that the global temperature is rising and glaciers are melting. Using energy more efficiently and sparingly will undoubtedly slow down this process.”
Zack hopes to have students move from just only being aware of the overuse of energy to taking action and doing something about their own energy consumption, by using CFL bulbs or using a dimmer switch for their lights so they can use only the energy they need.
In conclusion, Peter Zack is an environmentalist, teacher, and wants to help save the world from global warming.
