JAY – The steady snowfall and 12-degree temperature Wednesday morning didn’t stop Betsy Delavan and Melody Bishop from getting out to get their daily exercise.
The Jay women dressed in layers to protect themselves from the cold.
The women, mothers who work, try to get out three to five times a week and do two to six laps around the Jay Plaza.
One lap around the plaza during their route equals four-tenths of mile, Bishop said.
“I clocked it,” she said.
Most of the time the women walk after work but decided to go out during the morning Wednesday.
“We do it for exercise and fellowship,” Delavan said. They encourage each other to keep going.
“I lost 10 pounds this month,” Bishop said.
Instead of sitting in front of the television and talking, they walk and talk.
“It gets you out of the house so you do something for exercise,” Delavan said. “It clears my mind.”
“I’ve got to tell you I think it helped me stay healthy all winter,” Bishop said, as the women continued walking.
Delavan agreed.
“It helps me get over colds faster,” she said.
It doesn’t matter what the weather is, Bishop said, you can always put on enough layers of clothing.
