LEWISTON – Dorothy M. Vaughan, 88, of Gray died Jan. 28, at Montello Manor after a long illness.

She was born in Harpswell, on Sept. 21, 1920, the daughter of Arthur E. and Gertrude Cromwell Darling. She attended school in Harpswell and had been employed as a housekeeper/nanny for David and Sherry Huber of Falmouth for many years.

She loved to take rides up north to look at moose, bear and deer with her friend, Lewis Proctor. She loved spending time with her family and was loved by many. She was married to Howard Vaughan for 40 years before he died in 1990.

She is survived by three sons, Lawrence Harley and his wife, Etta, of Buxton, Arthur Vaughan and his wife, Debra, of Lewiston and Arnold Vaughan and his wife, Catherine, of South Carolina; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and her companion of many years, Lewis Proctor of Gray.

She was predeceased by two sons, Luther Harley and Eugene Harley.
