WINTHROP – Sophomore guard Nicole Scott hit a pair of foul shots with 18 seconds left, allowing Winthrop (11-5) to slip away with a 44-42 victory over Carrabec (11-4) in a girls’ basketball game Friday.

The Ramblers built a 19-14 lead by halftime and piled up another 16 points in the final stanza.

For Winthrop, Lindsey Gordon dropped in 14 points, including two 3-pointers. Kelsey Ouellette scored 10.

Leavitt 55, Lewiston 47

LEWISTON – Freshman forward Adriana Newton scored a game-high 19 points for the Hornets as Leavitt discharged Lewiston 55-47 in KVAC girls’ basketball action Friday evening.

The Hornets (9-7) came on strong in the first and third quarters, outscoring the Blue Devils (0-16) by a margin of 26-13 in the two frames. Courtney Anderson made seven field goals, including three from 3-point range, for 17 points for Leavitt.

Junior forward Jaime Swart also tallied three 3-pointers, and a total of six field goals for 15 points in the Blue Devils. Chandel Bouthot and Tricia DeFosse contributed 12 points each for Lewiston.

Lisbon 60, Wiscasset 21

LISBON – Lisbon forced 15 turnovers in the first quarter, and junior forward Renee Moore led all scorers with 17 points as the Greyhounds trounced Wiscasset 60-21 in a Friday MVC tilt.

The Greyhounds (11-5) outscored the Redskins 19-2 in the opening frame and never looked back.

Jen Caton and Amber Cloutier scored eight points apiece for Lisbon.

Mary Ellen True led the Redskins (1-15) with seven points and Melissa Thomas added five.

Lake Region 65, Poland 14

POLAND – Lake Region held Poland to single-digit scoring for four quarters and Megan Craffey threw in 16 points as the Lakers swamped winless Poland with a 65-14 victory in a girls’ basketball game Friday night.

The Lakers (10-6) easily built a 37-7 lead at halftime. Allison Clark threw 12 points and Chelsea Myers hit for 10 points for Lake Region.

For the Knights (0-16), Alexa Doyer was the leading scorer with six points.

Hampden 44, Mt. Blue 39

FARMINGTON – Kayla Webb notched five 3-pointers and all eight of her free throw attempts for 23 points to lead Hampden to a 44-39 triumph over Mt. Blue in KVAC girls’ basketball action Friday.

The Broncos picked up the pace in the second quarter to take a 23-20 halftime lead, and again in the final quarter after falling behind by two points after three.

Senior center Sabrina Keach notched a double-double which included a game-high 25 points to go along with 11 rebounds for the Cougars (0-16).

Edward Little 52, Morse 25

AUBURN – Junior point guard Kirsten Prue deposited 15 points to lead Edward Little to a 52-25 rout over Morse in KVAC girls’ basketball action Friday.

The Red Eddies (14-2) penetrated all defenses to take a 21-0 lead after one quarter. Kayla Cummings pitched in with 14 points for Edward Little.

Hannah Roy led the Shipbuilders (2-14) with eight points.

Mountain Valley 53, Telstar 29

RUMFORD – Mountain Valley turned a close game into a rout with a 38-9 run in the middle two quarters and pulled away for a 53-29 victory over Telstar.

Telstar (2-14) led 10-8 after the first quarter before getting overwhelmed by the Falcons’ pressure. No Telstar player scored more the two field goals.

Meagan Maifeld led the Falcons (12-3) with 16 points and Vanessa Cayer added 10. Kayla Merrill scored 10 points for Telstar.

Jay 42, Livermore Falls 39

JAY – Senior forward Liz LeBlanc scored 12 of her 17 game points in a prolific third quarter for the Tigers to lift Jay to a 42-39 victory over Livermore Falls in MVC girls’ basketball action Friday.

The Tigers (12-3) turned around a 21-11 halftime deficit with an outstanding 19-6 run in the third quarter. LeBlanc also managed to haul down a team-leading seven rebounds for Jay.

Junior forward Hannah Therrien paced the Andies (8-8) with a team-high nine points in the losing effort.

Rangeley 47, Richmond 43

RICHMOND – Rangeley fought back a fourth-quarter comeback to hang on for a 47-43 triumph over Richmond.

The Lakers (10-6) used a big third quarter to open up a 39-28 lead entering the final quarter, but Richmond narrowed the gap with a 15-8 run.

Allie Hammond scored 14 points to lead Rangeley. Angela White added 13 points, while Chantal Carrier and Emily Carrier grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Brooke Lancaster scored a game-high 17 points for the Bobcats (4-11).

Traip 55, St. Dom’s 46

KITTERY – Traip Academy zoned in from the perimeter with eight 3-pointers to stay safely ahead of St. Dom’s in a 55-46 triumph.

The Ramgers (8-7) set the tone early by sinking four in the first quarter to open a 20-7 advantage. The Saints fought back and cut the lead to four at one point, but could get no closer.

Allaina Murphy led the Saints (11-6) with 14 points, while Mary Lewis added 10 and Kelsey Murphy had nine. Selena Lorrey led Traip’s balanced attack with 11 points. Amy Lemieux and Katherine Volpe added 10 each.
