Diabetes classes, Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation programs, mobile osteoporosis screening, and flu vaccine clinics help keep River Valley residents healthy. Prescription Assistance helps patients access free medications from pharmaceutical firms when patients are unable to afford their medications.

The Birthing Center sponsors childbirth education, hypnobirthing classes, sibling classes, lactation consultant services, prenatal nurse visits, the Infant Car Seat program, and community referrals for new parents. One of its most popular offerings is Centering Pregnancy, a group prenatal option in which moms-to-be meet with a provider and other expectant moms and their support persons, rather than having regular office visits.

Three times a year the hospital, in conjunction with the Rumford Area Rotary, sponsors Red Cross Blood Drives in Rumford. The Tar Wars program, coordinated by the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition, has hospital physicians and mid-level providers visiting every fourth grade classroom in the River Valley to discourage smoking. Rumford Hospital partners with Black Mountain of Maine to promote health through outdoor activity.

Rumford Hospital fields teams for the American Heart Association Heart Walk, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, the March of Dimes Walk for Babies and its Moment of Hope Awareness Day.

Individual employees also sit on boards and participate in these organizations on behalf of the hospital: Oxford County Mental Health Services, Rumford Area Rotary, Healthy Communities Coalition Board, Tri-County EMS Board, and the Black Mountain of Maine Board. Physicians serve on the Maine Osteopathic Association, Maine Medical Association and American Association of Family Practice Boards. The Secretary of the Maine Chapter of American Occupational Health Professionals is a hospital employee. Nurses serve in leadership positions in the Maine Association of Emergency Department nurses and the American Board of Emergency Nursing Certification.

Beyond these, employees give to their community as volunteers in a wide range of roles and an array of non-profit organizations including Maine Handicapped Skiing, several school boards and classrooms, the VFW and American Legion, Girl Scouts, historical societies and many churches throughout the area.
