PORTLAND (AP) – Police are investigating the painting of a swastika on a sign outside a Portland synagogue.
Rabbi Akiva Herzfeld says the swastika was discovered Friday when a woman who sets up services noticed the sign at Shaarey Tphiloh.
Herzfeld said the swastika covered the entire sign, which measures about 21/2 feet by 31/2 feet.
The rabbi said the vandalism is worrisome. He said the congregation, neighbors and community leaders plan to gather Sunday morning to clean the sign.
