LEWISTON – A Celebration of Life service honoring the life of Kenneth A.Van Metre was held Saturday afternoon at the Pinette and Lynch Funeral Home, with the Rev. Allen Austin presiding.

During the service, three videos honoring Kenny’s life were shared. The first video was a slide show of Ken’s life from childhood to present. The second video was a tribute from Ken’s best friend, Rick Breton, sharing memories of the fun times that Rick and his wife, Cheryl, had with Ken and Jan, as well as sharing both Ken and Rick’s love of flying with the Cessna 172 float plane they co-owned together. The third video was introduced by Ken’s wife, Jan, because it was in Ken’s own words describing the love he had for his wife and their home on the lake.

Others who shared words of remembrance were Chris Pierce, former owner and consultant from Dingley Press, where Ken was employed. A large delegation of co-workers were in attendance, including Ken’s co-worker and close friend, Dan Maberry, who also shared how special Kenny was to all who knew him. Also sharing words of remembrance were Jan’s best friend, Kathy Orton, and Kenny’s sisters, Christine Monroe, Sandy Brown and Karla Eirby.

After a closing prayer by the Rev. Austin, all were invited to join the family outside where Kenny’s plane flew over the funeral home in his honor, and as a final tribute everyone was given red and white heart shaped balloons that were released into the sky that Kenny so loved.

At the conclusion of services, all were invited to a reception of fellowship at the Hilton Garden Inn in Auburn.
