LEWISTON – Elizabeth G. Tufts, 80, formerly of Greene, died Monday, Feb. 2, at Genesis Care Marshwood Center after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Lewiston, July 27, 1928, the daughter of James and Blanche (Poliquin) Galipeau. She attended local schools and married the love of her life, Richard F. Tufts, on Aug. 20, 1949. He predeceased her in 1995.

She worked at Judkins Laundry, Tufts Bros. Printers and retired from Kmart, being one of the original employees at the Auburn store. She was very involved in her community, helping form the Greene Volunteer Women’s Fire Auxiliary, a member of the Civilian Defense and worked at the town office during elections.

She loved playing beano, cards, going to garage sales, family dinners every Sunday and the Greene Senior Citizens. For several years, she hosted Pokeno night every Tuesday for all her friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Langlin of Greene and Eileen Estes and her husband, Thomas Jr., of New Gloucester; her son, Bruce Tufts and his wife, Denise, of Greene; her grandchildren, Amy Hinkley and husband, Michael, Richard D. Tufts Jr. and wife, Stacy, Ellen Wood and husband, Ian, Roxcie Tufts, Lisa Bickford, Dennis Tufts, Levi Tufts, Michele Sherman and husband, Mark and Tim Estes and wife, Carrie; her great-grandchildren, Jared Wood, Trevor Tufts, Corey Sherman, Timmy Bartlett, Brittney Estes, Joey Estes and Patrick Estes; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard; a son, Richard D. Tufts Sr. in 1998; her sister, Constance Violette; and her brother, Leonard Galipeau.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers at The Genesis Care Marshwood Center for their years of loving care and The Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice team with special thanks to Barbara Lucas.
