FARMINGTON – A Community Event to Push Back Hunger will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Trinity United Methodist Church. There will be entertainment in the sanctuary, hourly door prizes and food.
Local businesses have made donations for door prizes, cash donations and goods and services to support the event. Door prizes include gift certificates. Community volunteers will gather food donations and pack them for delivery to the food closet.
Musical groups will perform on the hour in the sanctuary as the We Can Push Back Hunger Cafe serves food in the fellowship hall. The music will be heard in the cafe as well as the sanctuary.
The menu will include homemade corn chowder with crackers, hot dogs, popcorn and homemade cookies and bars. Drinks will include coffee, water and juices. All menus items will receive cash donations.
The kick-off musical performance will be presented by the Mt. Blue High School Syncopation, under the direction of Carol Shumway. The 5 p.m. performance will be by Greater Purpose, who will share their faith through contemporary music.
Unite Ignite, another local group, will share their faith musically at 6 p.m. The 7 p.m. performance will be by Sparrow Song, a youth choir organized by local Presbyterian churches and directed by Joni James.
The 7:30 p.m. performance that will round out the musical offerings will be the Trinity United Methodist Church Choir, under the direction of Sandra Hoyt. Most of the singers have been together for more than 25 years.
The performers are donating their time as are the cafe venders to raise funds for the local Care and Share Food Closet.
Attendees are asked to bring nonperishable food items or make a cash donation to the closet.
