Free ski night

RUMFORD – The public is invited for a night of free skiing or snowboarding at Black Mountain of Maine from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12.

The tubing park will be open for a $10 fee. Rentals will be available for $15 and the rental shop will open at 3:45 p.m.

Ski Saturday or Sunday, Feb. 14 to 15, present the Free Ski Night ticket and get $2.50 off the lift pass for that day. For more information, visit [email protected].

Turkey supper

MEXICO – A turkey supper will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Mexico UCC (Green Church). Cost will be adults, $7; children under 12, $3. Takeouts will be available after 5:30.

Joy of Skiing

NEWRY – The annual Joy of Skiing will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Sunday River Cross Country Ski Center. The progressive picnic on skis will benefit the Maine Lung Association.

Doughnuts cooked along the trail, soup at the Artist’s Covered Bridge and s’mores by the campfire are three of the goodies to be sampled along the trail.

The event costs $7 for adults and $5 for children plus a trail pass. Preregistration tickets are available at $6 for adults and $4 for children. Call 824-2410 for more information.

Church supper

BETHEL – West Parish Congregational Church, Church Street, will hold an old-fashioned church supper from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21.

The menu will include casseroles, baked beans, coleslaw, rolls and pie. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children.

Guest speaker

RUMFORD – Widow or Widowers Sharing will meet at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at the Rumford Senior Citizens Center at 50 Congress St.

Guest speaker will be Sue Holmes on Lyme disease. Refreshments will be provided by Louise Gerrish, Dot Chrissikos and Evelyn Canwell.

RUMFORD – The River Valley Chamber of Commerce Four Season Guidebook advertising deadline is Thursday, Feb. 26.

Contact Cherri at the Chamber office for advertising rates. The publication goes to all Maine information centers, chambers and across New England.

Bulletins available

ORONO – The University of Maine Cooperative Extension has announced publication of Maine Home Energy, a series of bulletins designed to help Mainers keep warm, save money, heat safely and conserve energy.

The bulletins can be freely downloaded at extension.umaine.edu (click “Publications”). Printed copies can be purchased by calling 800-287-0274 (in Maine) or 581-3792.

Topics available include weather-stripping doors and windows, making inexpensive indoor shutters, making insulated window coverings, heating a home safely and saving energy in apartments.
