VAL D’ISERE, France (AP) – Lindsey Vonn cut her right thumb on a champagne bottle while celebrating her downhill victory at the World Championships on Monday.

Vonn required four stitches to close the wound, but team officials said they did not expect her to miss her remaining events, giant slalom and slalom.

“I really think I’m safer skiing downhill at 85 mph,” Vonn said. “I’m in a little bit of pain, but this shouldn’t slow me down.”

Vonn was treated at the team hotel by U.S. Ski Team doctor Jeff Harrison, who will continue to observe her over the next few days.

Vonn was already likely to skip the team event Wednesday. Her next individual event is the giant slalom Thursday, followed by the slalom Saturday.

Vonn also won the super-G that opened the championships, and her downhill victory meant she joined Anja Paerson and Swiss skier Maria Walliser as the only women to sweep the speed races at a World Championship.

Paerson’s sweep came at her home championships in Are, Sweden, two years ago, while Walliser did it on home snow at Crans Montana in Switzerland in 1987.
