Dear Sun Spots: Recently, I drove by Wendy’s on Lisbon Street and noticed there is no longer a sign. The business looked like it was closed. Could you tell me more information? – RBJ, Lewiston.

Answer: According to a report from the Maine Public Broadcasting Network in January, the restaurant has closed for good. However, we’re not sure why; Sun Spots did not receive a reply from the Wendy’s Restaurant headquarters.

Dear Sun Spots: Thank you for your column and we appreciate the support we have received from the community. We are writing to ask for your help again for we are seeking yarn for our knitters, and more volunteers to work with our elderly clients.

We are in need of 4-ply yarn of all colors, in good condition, to support our volunteers who are busy knitting hats, mittens, baby items and afghans that are given to the needy in Androscoggin County. The yarn is donated to SEARCH and given out to our knitters as needed.

Our SEARCH program, (Seek Elderly Alone, Renew, Courage, & Hope) is part of Catholic Charities Maine at 270 Minot Ave., Auburn. We have wonderful volunteers that are matched to our elderly and disabled clients. They help the clients by making reassurance calls, home visits, or by assisting them with errands. If you are interested in volunteering with the elderly, we would love to talk to you about joining our program and volunteering with us!

For more information about donating yarn or becoming a volunteer with us, please phone our office at 784-0157. Thank you for your donations and we hope you will join us by becoming a volunteer to help make a difference in our community! With heartfelt gratitude. – Wendy Russell, Program Director, Auburn.
