When you wake up Sunday morning grumpy and exhausted, there is only one explanation. Saturday night. As the night winds down on Saturday, many people are left to make a decision. Will I stay up? Will I go to sleep? Asking yourself this question can be enough after a hard day. Many people choose the safe decision and drag themselves to bed, so they can wake up the next day and be all hyper and energetic. Big Whoop! This article is for the all night people: the true football fans, the diehard news people, not the ones who work the night shift, but the others who are sitting on the couch watching “Dateline” or “Knight Rider.” Whether you watch “Saturday Night Live” or the World Series baseball game, you will agree that you can’t miss the wonder of Saturday night.

“Eight seconds left, they’re driving, the throw goes deep and is caught! With two seconds left the receiver goes out of bounds. The next play, the throw and the receiver is going to…”

The TV is shut off right before the touchdown play. My mom is standing in front of the TV. “No more of the football game, Mark needs to go to bed so he can feel better tomorrow morning.”

“But Mommmm, the game had two seconds left and I was about to find out who won the game and…”

“No more TV tonight. No buts either.”

I trudged up the stairs in angst, wondering how something like that could happen during one of the most exciting football games in history. Just when I thought nothing could stop the Dolphins’ football team, my mom does the impossible. Kids would be talking all about it the next day and I had missed it. My emotions were like a blimp, filled, puffy and dangerous when popped. I could be on the edge of my seat or jumping up and down on the bright white carpet downstairs.

Many people think that you will not get enough sleep and will wake up cranky and dragging the next morning. My opinion is sleep in and you’ll be fine. Why sit by the fireplace and watch the embers crackle when you could be sitting next to the fire and watching the TV? A show like “Crusoe” will thrill you till the end of the hour, while a family movie like “Old Yeller” will warm your hearts. The TV show could be a thriller, a comedy, a drama, or a sports cast. You are always entertained by any TV program. Readers, you may want to take my advice and not think about what is going to happen in your books. Go downstairs or wherever you can find a TV and just watch the screen till midnight or later. Just make sure you keep it down, in case your mother hears. Do one more thing, sleep in till lunch the next day.
