AUBURN – Donald G. Wing, 84, of Plains Road, Leeds, passed away on Monday, Feb. 9, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, after a long courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Nov. 30, 1924, son of Richard and Mary (Kaleikini) Wing. Don joined the U.S. Navy in August 1942. He was a veteran of World War II and retired as a chief petty officer in July 1971. He had a second career with Cigna Corp. as a computer support technician from which he retired in July 1988.

While stationed at Brunswick Naval Air Station, he met his wife of 61 years, Theresa Lemay, who predeceased him on Nov. 11, 2007. He was an active member of the Wing Assembly of Maine and the Wing Family of America. He was also a member of the Fleet Reserve Association.

He enjoyed collecting Navy memorabilia, Navy caps, and coins, but most of all, he liked being outdoors, mowing the lawn and maintaining his yard year round. He loved dogs, especially his favorite pet, Michael Monkey. To some close family and friends, he was known by his nickname, Jimmy.

He is survived by a son, Richard of New Hampshire; five daughters, Cynde Clark of Stonington, Terry Elver of Florida, Candy Clark and husband, Blaine, of Richmond, Pat Lenz and husband, Joe, of Pennsylvania, and Tina Mackie and husband, Will, of South Portland; sister, Sissy Ledbetter of Arizona; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a number of cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and close friends.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Modarressi and his staff at St. Mary’s Infusion Center, Montello Heights, and Dr. Austin and his staff at The Hospice House for their wonderful care.
