ANDOVER – An Andover teen, whom police say threatened to kill the family pets and shoot the family car after an argument on Thursday night, remains behind bars in Paris unable to make $1,000 cash bail.
Maine State Police Trooper Paul Casey said he arrested Joshua A. Pike, 18, of Rumford Center Road, and charged him with domestic terrorizing with a dangerous weapon.
Pike, who turns 19 on Sunday, will have an initial court appearance Tuesday, Feb. 17. He is scheduled to be arraigned April 16 in Oxford County Superior Court in Paris.
Pike’s mother called 911 about 10 p.m. and Casey and Oxford County Sheriff’s Deputy George Cayer responded. They determined Pike and his stepfather got into a verbal argument and Pike “grabbed his hunting rifle, brought it out into the kitchen and threatened to shoot the dog, the cat, and the car,” Casey said.
He said he was unsure if the .30-06 bolt-action hunting rifle that police seized was actually loaded.
Pike “wouldn’t admit that the gun was loaded, but it doesn’t really matter at that point. We recovered shells to it in the same location as where we recovered the rifle,” Casey said.
Although the trooper said Pike has a history of domestic violence crimes, he isn’t currently prohibited from owning or possessing firearms.
In other recent state police news, Casey said he arrested Jeffrey P. Hanson, owner of Hanson’s Automotive in Rumford, on Feb. 6 on Oak Street in Dixfield after a traffic stop.
Casey charged Hanson with operating under the influence (second offense), and possession of a small amount of cocaine.
Hanson was freed on bail.
The following day, Casey, Trooper Tyler Stevenson and Stevenson’s police dog Ramos went to Hanson’s Dixfield residence to conduct a routine bail check.
“We located a small amount of cocaine in the residence at that time, as well, and some marijuana, too. Then a search warrant was applied for and obtained for the business, Hanson’s Automotive in Rumford, where trace amounts of cocaine were located in the business, as well. It was cocaine residue on a plate with several razor blades,” Casey said.
Casey said he arrested Hanson again and charged him with violation of conditions of release, possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana.
Hanson was taken to Oxford County Jail in Paris, where he was released on Tuesday and will be arraigned on all misdemeanor charges from both days on May 5 in Rumford District Court.
