Gray – Everett W. Allen, 82, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, Feb. 14.

He was born in Rockland on June 30, 1926, the son of Merle and Mildred Allen and was raised in Stonington. He graduated from Stonington High School and moved to Portland in 1943, where he worked at the South Portland boat yard, building Liberty ships in support of World War II. He later joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

After the war Everett began his long career working for the American Can Co., where he met his first wife, Rilla Alice Fogg, of Harrison. They married on June 1, 1946, and settled in South Portland to start a family. They had three children and moved to Gray in 1967.

Everett married Betty Ayers on March 31, 2000. He enjoyed their long drives to visit friends and family and especially dining at Cole Farms in Gray. He loved their clam chowder on Fridays and Tuesday’s fish and chips. He was very fond of the waitresses and they of him. Over the years Everett enjoyed camping, sailing, snowmobiling, hiking and fishing. He especially enjoyed spending time with family.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Ayers, originally from Mechanic Falls; stepdaughter, Cindy Stuchbury, her husband Ray and their daughter Annie, of Windham; stepson, Sid Hall and his daughter, Colette, of Evansville, Ind. He is also survived by his and Rilla’s daughter, Linda Deveau of Portland, her son, Cecil of Freeport, daughter, Sandra Cary, her husband Stephen, granddaughters, Jessica and Samara of Hartford, Vt.; and his son, Paul Allen, his wife Michelle, granddaughter Lindsey, her fiancé, Ryan Cole of Portland, grandson, Sean and granddaughter, Elizabeth all of Gray.
