HARPSWELL – Reginald J. Lebel, 71, of Indian Rest Road, died peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Androscoggin Hospice, after a courageous battle with cancer. His loving family was by his side.

He was born in North Strafford, N.H., on Feb. 15, 1937, the son of Auguste and Marie-Jeanne Theroux Lebel. At the age of three the family moved to Brunswick, where he attended St. John’s School and graduated from Brunswick High School, Class of 1955.

He worked in construction for many years in both Maine and Connecticut, before pursuing a career in massage therapy, which he did for more than 15 years. His family commented that he had a real passion for helping others.

He was also active with the sports massage team which worked with various sporting events including the Bowdoin College athletic teams. He was also a member of the AMTA for many years and served as its vice president for a time.

On Dec. 18, 1982, he married Theresa Gay in Syracuse, N.Y., and together they made their home and raised their family in Harpswell.

In his spare time, he enjoyed kayaking, attending car shows, square dancing with his wife and woodworking, building his own log home in Harpswell.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years; a daughter, Rosemarie L. Lebel of Harpswell; a son, Reginald M. Lebel of Bowdoinham; a sister, Connie and her husband, Larry Blouin, of Lewiston; an aunt, Jeanne D’arc Audet of Canada; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
