LIVERMORE FALLS – A woman denied striking another woman in the police station lobby on Wednesday, but a security tape told a different story, police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said Thursday.
Officer Steve Gould issued a summons to Paula Bates, 39, of Livermore Falls on charges of criminal threatening and assault, Steward said Thursday.
The victim, a 19-year-old Livermore Falls woman, had gone to the police station to report being harassed by Bates.
While the victim was waiting at the service window, and the dispatcher was on the phone with another caller, Bates came in and forcefully struck the complainant in the back of the head, Steward said.
Gould came out to take the harassment complaint and brought the victim into an office.
It was there she told him that Bates had struck her while she was waiting in the lobby. Gould asked Bates if she hit the victim, Steward said, and she denied it.
Police reviewed the security tape of the lobby, he said, and saw Bates strike the victim and her head jerk forward from the blow.
The tape also shows that the victim did not confront the woman, he said.
The victim is dating Bates’ daughter’s ex-boyfriend, Steward said.
Gould warned Bates that if she has any further contact with the victim, she would be arrested, he said.
