Two local skaters top the list of eight semifinalists for the Travis Roy Award, handed out each year to the outstanding senior boys’ hockey player in Class A.

Richard Paradis of St. Dom’s and Robbie Leeman of Lewiston join six other skaters nominated for the prestigious award, named for former NYA standout Travis Roy, who in 1995 played 11 seconds of NCAA hockey for Boston University before an awkward fall left him paralyzed.

Sam Butts of Thornton Academy, Mike Chase of Falmouth, Sam Guimond of Portland, Shawn Lee of Waterville, Dylan Fitzpatrick of Brewer and Chris Logan of Cony are the other semifinalists.

A four-year letterman in three sports and current captain of the Saints, Paradis led Class A West in scoring. He made the transition to defense this season, yet continues to lead the Saints in all offensive categories. He regularly volunteers with Lewiston Area Youth Hockey and assists with multiple school activities, such as music ministry and school fund raising.

Leeman, the Blue Devils’ captain, has been a member of three Eastern Maine championship teams. He leads Lewiston in scoring this season. A four-year, three-sport letterman, he was named to the 2009 KVAC All-Academic hockey team for having achieved a GPA of 90 or higher for all four years. He is an honor roll student and is on the National Honor Society.

The Class A coaches will cull four finalists from the list of eight, and announce those selections on Monday, March 2. The winner will be announced at the annual Class A hockey state banquet on Sunday, March 15, at the Ramada Inn and Conference Center in Lewiston.
