RANGELEY – A Rangeley man faces several charges after he slammed his car door shut hitting a police officer in the head and shoulder before speeding away Friday night, police said.
John Lamanna, 49, was arrested on charges of misdemeanor operating under the influence, felony eluding a police officer, and misdemeanors of refusing to submit to arrest and assault on a police officer, police Chief Dennis Leahy said Monday.
Police officer Brian Hughes had stopped Lamanna’s vehicle about 11 p.m. Friday on Main Street, he said. During a conversation, Lamanna slammed the door and it struck Hughes, Leahy said.
After a pursuit, Lamanna was arrested in the area of 603 Loon Lake Road, he said. Lamanna had left his vehicle in his driveway and tried to go into his home when police caught up to him, Leahy said.
A scuffle ensued and Hughes and a U.S. Border Patrol agent were able to subdue Lamanna with Mace, he said.
Lamanna was brought to the police station and Hughes flushed out Lamanna’s eyes before he was taken to the Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington.
Lamanna was released from jail Saturday after he posted $2,500 cash bail, a corrections officer said.
