LEWISTON – Carol C. Demeter, 59, a resident of 4 Pineway Drive, Auburn, died unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 22, at Central Maine Medical Center.

She was born in Bethesda, Md., July 16, 1949, the daughter of Nicholas and Therese (Maheux) Chacos. She grew up in Bethesda, Md., where she attended Our Lady of Lords Elementary School and the Immaculata High School. She studied theater at Villanova University and Montgomery College in Maryland.

After her education, she was employed for more than 20 years for Grady Property Management Group in Maryland, where she served as its property manager here in Maine.

She was very active in theater in Maryland. She designed and made costumes for several large productions in that area. Upon moving to Maine, she continued her talents of prop and costume design with the Public Theater here in Lewiston, which she so enjoyed for the past 17 years.

She was also a member and officer of AROK Temple 4 Daughters of the Nile and president of the Nile Club which raise funds for Shriners Children Hospitals, and she was also a member of the Martindale Cribbage League.

Besides her parents of Bethesda, Md., survivors include one son, Jonathan Cary of Auburn; her companion, Kevin Murphy of Auburn; three brothers, Nicholas Chacos III of California, Albert Chacos and wife, Laura, of Columbia, Md., and Michael Chacos and wife, Andrea, of London, England; and two nieces, Erin and Alexis Chacos, both of Columbia, Md.
