AUBURN – Muriel Agnes (Jones) Merrill, 75, passed away on Feb. 24, due to pneumonia, and complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born Nov. 12, 1933, in Auburn, the only daughter of Agnes (Estes) and Melville C. Jones. After attending Auburn schools and graduating from Edward Little High School in 1951, she worked at Cummings Cleaners until her marriage.

She married Albert Lawrence “Larry” Merrill on Sept. 11, 1960. The couple settled on the Garfield Road in Auburn, where they raised their family, and they later moved to Lisbon after Larry retired from the Auburn Highway Department.

She was a member of Stevens Mills Grange, Pomona, state and national granges for many years. She enjoyed spending time with family, and going on long drives in the car with her husband. She was proud of her husband’s service in the U.S. Navy, and her daughter’s service in the Navy as well.

She is survived by her husband, Albert of Lisbon; her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Ray Carlson of Jacksonville, Fla.; her son, Brian Merrill of Gardiner; two grandchildren, Autumn (Carlson) McCahill and Jeremy Carlson and two great-grandchildren, Jasmine Carlson and Aidan Clayton, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; her brother, Melville Jones Jr. of Auburn; her in-laws, Leonard and Carolyn Merrill, Dorothy LeClair and Mavis and David Pomeroy; three nephews; two nieces-in-law; two nieces; and two grandnieces.

She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Donna Sue Merrill in 1961; and her parents.

The family is especially grateful for the care given to Mrs. Merrill by the staff at Clover Manor.
