AUGUSTA (AP) – All of Maine’s shelters have closed as utility crews work to restore electricity to a handful of homes and businesses that remain in the dark.

Central Maine Power Co. had more than 1,000 workers from Maine and other states in the field. Despite that, it has been slow-going as crews push into rural locations.

The storm that passed through Maine early this week left more than 130,000 customer accounts without power at its peak, but the number had been reduced to 250 as of late Thursday afternoon. A sign of the progress made by line crews was the closing of all emergency shelters and warming stations as of Thursday.

CMP expects to restore electricity to all homes and businesses by day’s end. Most of the remaining outages were in coastal Cumberland, Sagadahoc and Lincoln counties.
